Thing Three Turns Four
I think we have finally come to the end of the birthday season in the Neufeld home! Emma celebrated her birthday twice, once with Grammie, Papa, Aunt Debbie and Christina before Grammie and Papa left for Show Low. The second party was on her actual birthday and Grandma and Grandpa came for that one. She is such a sweet big girl four year old! A few days before her birthday I was talking to her at bedtime and expained how sucking her thumb was not good for her teeth and she should stop. I told her (like I have a few times before) that if she stopped sucking her thumb for 5 night nights she could go pick out a toy at the store. She decided she liked that idea and stopped sucking her thumb that night. This is my second child to stop sucking their thumb in a strange and dramatic way. It made me sad in one sense because I know that's just one more step closer to getting married and moving away. But I know it's the right thing to do and I'm very proud of her for being so strong. She has told me a few times that she really wants to suck her thumb but she won't. She hasn't napped as well as she did before and I can tell she's forcing herself to break this habit. Her relationship with her special "Bonnie Bunny" has become more distant now as well. Emma only sucked her thumb when she could hold Bonnie's ribbon across her nose at the same time. Why do they have to grow up???
